Africa Data Centres has partnered with Oni-Tel to enhance data centre connectivity across South Africa.

Announced on Monday, Africa Data Centres has partnered with fibre optic cable infrastructure provider Oni-Tel to strengthen connectivity across its Gauteng facilities.

Oni-Tel will be delivering high-speed, low-latency connectivity to Africa Data Centres as part of the agreement, specifically at its Midrand and Samrand campuses with its Infinity fibre interconnection.

“Our partnership with Africa Data Centres enables us to deliver our premium fibre interconnection solution into some of the most strategically important data centre hubs in Gauteng,” said Ellisha Gobind, chief commercial officer at Oni-Tel. “Through Infinity, customers benefit from ultra-low latency connectivity, scalable capacity and secure, carrier-grade infrastructure designed to keep their businesses ahead in an extremely competitive digital landscape.”

Africa Data Centres said Oni-Tel will help enable a network that is resilient and purpose-built for data centre interconnectivity, providing customers with fast, high-capacity bandwidth and secure, carrier-grade performance.

The collaboration also seeks to strengthen Africa Data Centres’ service portfolio by expanding connectivity options within its facilities. As demand for high-performing digital infrastructure surges, Africa Data Centres is focusing its efforts on an interconnected ecosystem that supports enterprise growth across South Africa and the wider region.

“As enterprises accelerate cloud adoption, AI deployment and data-intensive workloads, they need dependable, scalable connectivity within trusted local data centres,” said Adil El Youssefi, CEO of Africa Data Centres.

Africa Data Centres provides key interconnection hubs with its facilities, supporting the likes of enterprises, cloud service providers and mobile network operators. The company said Oni-Tel’s dark fibre solution will help to further expand the range of carrier-neutral options available to Gauteng customers, enabling improved network speed and performance.

El Youssefi added: “By partnering with Oni-Tel, we’re giving our customers access to enhanced fibre infrastructure that supports their growth and innovation, while maintaining secure, enterprise-grade environments for businesses navigating South Africa’s digital economy.”

The news comes amid rapid data centre interest in South Africa, with companies like Equinix investing billions of dollars into the region to fuel interconnection and capitalise on the AI boom. Currently, Johannesburg serves as the leading hub for the country, driven by hyperscaler investments, cloud adoption and AI.

In South Africa alone, the data centre market is expected to grow from US$2.6 billion in 2025 to more than $5 billion by 2031, according to Arizton Advisory & Intelligence.
