The move marks the first renewable Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) for a data centre under the country’s Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP).
The solar facility, developed by ib vogt, began commercial operations on July 1, and is now supplying clean energy into Malaysia’s grid under a long-term agreement supporting AirTrunk’s local operations.
David Ludwig, chief executive of ib vogt APAC, said the company was “proud to have delivered this project safely and responsibly,” adding that it reinforces the company’s commitment to decarbonisation and inclusive economic development in the markets where it operates.
Damien Spillane, chief customer and innovation officer at AirTrunk, said the deal shows how “digital infrastructure growth and the energy transition can advance together.”
He said securing renewable supply is increasingly critical as demand for cloud and AI infrastructure accelerates across the region, and confirmed the project supports AirTrunk’s target of matching 100% of its platform-wide electricity consumption with renewable energy by 2030.
The project adds new renewable capacity to Malaysia’s grid and comes as data centre operators across Southeast Asia face growing pressure to secure clean power to support hyperscale and AI-driven expansion. Malaysia’s CGPP allows corporates to procure renewable energy directly from generators via VPPA structures, without requiring a physical grid connection between buyer and seller.
