With Lumina CloudInfra having a strong presence in India, the deal marks AirTrunk’s entry into one of the fastest-growing digital and AI infrastructure markets worldwide.

Under the terms of the acquisition, AirTrunk will gain immediate access to Lumina’s development pipeline, existing contracts and relationships and operating capabilities. This includes a 600MW portfolio of planned capacity, representing US$5 billion in future development potential.

The platform will be supported by long-term capital from Blackstone and CPPIB.

“India is one of the largest and fastest-growing markets for hyperscale and AI infrastructure worldwide and expanding in this market is a significant milestone for AirTrunk’s broader APAC strategy,” said Robin Khuda, founder & CEO of AirTrunk. “By acquiring Lumina CloudInfra, we are uniquely positioned to deliver the scale, speed and performance our customers need as they expand across the APAC region.”

Post-acquisition, AirTrunk plans to scale to more than 3GW of operating and planned capacity across 20 campuses in six operating regions, including Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and India. This, the company said, should reinforce its position as a leading global APAC hyperscale platform.

Lumina is a scaled and established data centre platform in India with operations across Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad, three critical Tier I markets across the country. Its goal is to bring execution capability, a proven development pipeline, in addition to a clear focus on AI-ready, energy efficient infrastructure.

Combining AirTrunk’s global hyperscale expertise with Lumina’s market leadership positions the integrated platform to accelerate the delivery of next-generation digital infrastructure, AirTrunk said. Both organisations are eager to enable the delivery of large-scale, high-density, AI-ready campuses to support customers across the APAC region.

“Our team is excited to join AirTrunk as we continue building India’s digital infrastructure. Lumina enters this next chapter as a scaled operator with strong local capabilities, deep expertise, and a proven delivery track record,” said Sujeet Deshpande, co-founder & CEO of Lumina CloudInfra.

“By bringing our team together with AirTrunk, we combine local strength with global platforms in design, construction, operations, safety, quality and technology – along with access to AirTrunk’s global customer network and capital strength. Together, our teams will grow, delivering greater consistency, scale and opportunity for our people, customers, and partners.”

The news coincides with AirTrunk celebrating 10 years in Singapore, with the company announcing a new regional headquarters in a commitment to its long-term growth plans in the region.

On this, Khuda added: “Singapore has been fundamental to AirTrunk’s growth over the past decade and remains central to our long-term Asia Pacific strategy. As hyperscale demand continues to rise, we’re deepening our partnerships, investing in local talent and advancing sustainable operations to support the nation’s digital ambitions and the region’s growing infrastructure needs.”

India continues to experience a rapid increase in demand for data, with national installed data centre capacity expected to grow from roughly 1.5GW in 2025 to around 10GW by 2030. This is being fuelled by widening cloud adoption, 5G expansion, tightening data sovereignty rules and the world’s largest mobile user base.

The country’s ambition to become a global AI powerhouse is supported by the Indian government as part of its IndiaAI Mission initiative to build sovereign AI capability. This is inevitably creating national demand for hyperscale and AI data centres.
