The 36-hectare plot sits within Haugaland Business Park and will host NOR01, atNorth’s first Norwegian facility. Initial phases will deliver 120MW, with the site designed to scale to 350MW to serve hyperscale and high-density AI workloads.

Power availability is projected for 2028, supported by the construction of two substations, one developed by Statnett, Norway’s transmission system operator, and one by regional grid provider Fagne.

Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, chief executive of atNorth, said Norway had been a long-term strategic priority for the company and that Haugaland offered the combination of renewable energy, connectivity and climate conditions suited to future-focused AI infrastructure. “We look forward to collaborating with the local community to deliver world-class digital infrastructure in a responsible way,” he said.

Norway’s appeal as a data centre location rests on an energy mix heavily weighted towards renewables, political and economic stability, and low-latency connectivity to European and global markets.

The cool Nordic climate reduces reliance on mechanical cooling, improving energy efficiency and lowering carbon output, factors that have made the country a consistent destination for large-scale digital infrastructure investment.

In line with atNorth’s broader sustainability strategy, the company said it was actively exploring heat reuse opportunities with local stakeholders within the business park.

Monika Lindanger, mayor of Tysvær Municipality, welcomed the investment, citing employment, sustainable industry development and heat reuse partnerships as benefits for the local economy and community.

The Norwegian announcement follows a series of recent expansions across the Nordic region. atNorth has previously announced a 300MW mega site in Sollefteå, Sweden, alongside metro sites in Stockholm and Finland, and expansions at two of its Icelandic facilities.

NOR01 extends that programme and reinforces the company’s position as a provider of colocation and built-to-suit infrastructure for AI and high-performance computing across the region.
