As part of the collaboration, BT will provide 23,000 mobile connections across EE’s network, supporting easyJet operations in 35 countries and more than 150 airports.
The airline provider said it will use the EE network to connect a range of devices and enable all pilots and cabin crew to easily access flight information and real-time training whilst on the go.
BT will also support easyJet to deliver smart messaging to keep customers updated on their flight, in addition to connecting iPads that pilots and crew can use to access real-time flight information. The partnership will also connect smartphones, mobile phones and aircraft phones to allow seamless communication between colleagues, with laptops and other hardware being provided for workers.
Notably, all devices will be equipped with eSIMs to offer a smarter and more efficient way to manage mobile connectivity.
“This partnership with easyJet is about delivering the smart, seamless connectivity which is crucial when operating at scale,” said Chris Sims, chief commercial officer at BT Business. “By equipping thousands of devices with eSIMs on EE’s award-winning network, we’re enabling easyJet to manage connections remotely, switch networks across borders, and reduce the complexity of traditional SIMs.”
In recent years, eSIMs have become much more mainstream in the mobile market and have been touted as the next step in the industry evolving to give customers more connectivity options.
eSIMs enable remote setup, can enhance security and reduce costs – while supporting global operations and reducing waste to improve overall user experience. The solution is becoming more popular in the airline industry, with eSIM offering an opportunity for companies to simplify, secure and scale device connectivity across global fleets.
The move to eSIM-only iPads offers a rare opportunity to simplify, secure and scale device connectivity across global fleets.
On the partnership, Sims added: “It’s a future-ready solution that enhances security, boosts efficiency, and keeps teams connected when they need it most.”
