The agreement adds a mobile transmission dimension to an existing relationship in which CityFibre already acts as a preferred supplier of full fibre infrastructure for VodafoneThree’s retail broadband services. CityFibre’s network currently passes more than 4.7 million premises, with plans to extend that to over 8 million, coverage that will be included in the expanded deal as the rollout progresses.
The partnership sits within VodafoneThree’s £11 billion investment programme to build what the combined operator has described as the UK’s best network, with 5G Standalone at its centre.
More than 330,000 Vodafone residential broadband customers are already connected via CityFibre’s infrastructure, including those on Vodafone’s 2.2Gbps symmetrical home broadband service, which runs exclusively over CityFibre’s 10Gb XGS-PON network.
Simon Holden, CEO of CityFibre, said the company had grown alongside Vodafone and Three and was “delighted to be a key part of VodafoneThree’s vision as it continues to invest and innovate.”
Max Taylor, CEO of VodafoneThree, said the partnership supports its ambition to take 5G Standalone “further than any other operator” while continuing to grow its broadband footprint across the UK.
