Built on its 10Gb XGS-PON infrastructure, the service will allow internet service providers (ISPs) using the network to deliver significantly faster speeds and next-generation digital services. The rollout follows rapid expansion of CityFibre’s footprint, which now reaches more than 4.7 million premises, with ambitions to exceed 8 million.
The company says the launch reflects growing demand for higher bandwidth as households and organisations increasingly rely on data-intensive applications, from cloud computing to streaming and advanced business services.
Simon Holden, CEO at CityFibre, said: “CityFibre is the UK’s largest, most advanced full fibre network, setting the standard for what people should expect from their connection and enabling all our customers and partners, across consumer, business, mobile and the public sector, to innovate and grow.
“Thanks to forward-thinking policy and regulation, and ambitious capital providers, CityFibre is transforming the UK’s digital infrastructure and propelling the nation into the global fast lane.”
The 8.5Gb product will be available to ISP partners from 21 April. CityFibre has already begun deploying 10Gb-capable optical network terminals (ONTs) in new customer installations, ensuring the network is ready to support future high-speed services at scale.
The launch comes amid strong commercial momentum. CityFibre is adding more than 30,000 customers each month and is approaching the milestone of one million users.
The company also reports that, where available, around 70% of switching households are choosing providers on its network, underlining its growing role in the UK’s broadband market.
