Colt has unveiled new high-bandwidth network routes between the US East Coast and Europe to handle growing data traffic driven by artificial intelligence, cloud services and streaming.

The expansion includes a new transatlantic subsea route and new fibre network builds, which the company claims will give customers more secure, low-latency connection options across one of the world’s busiest data pathways.

As a result, the upgrade will provide customers and partners with access to the Marea subsea cable between Virginia Beach in the US and Bilbao in Spain, new high-bandwidth fibre routes between key cable landing stations and a new network backbone linking New York, Ashburn, Virginia and Virginia Beach.

Additionally, it will also offer more diverse transatlantic routes for backup and resilience, as well as new 100G and 400G connectivity options between the US and Europe.

According to Colt, the expansion will improve capacity and reliability so customers can scale their services more easily, with large cloud and content providers being among the first to benefit.

Colt chief operating officer, Buddy Bayer, said: “This exciting network expansion marks the latest milestone in our ongoing commitment to our customers to deliver exceptional global infrastructure that powers the AI economy.

“We’re building and managing the most valuable, sustainable digital infrastructure in the world: quantum secure, AI-ready and engineered to be sustainable and smart at every layer.”

The expansion brings Colt’s US presence to four connected cable landing stations on the East Coast, with access to 10 transatlantic subsea cable systems.
