John Hatem becomes CEO at CyrusOne, succeeding Eric Schwartz, as the company continues to champion its global growth plans.

CyrusOne has named John Hatem as CEO and a member of its board of directors to accelerate its global digital infrastructure strategy. The data centre operator has made the decision effective immediately as part of its long-term planning for current CEO Eric Schwartz’s departure.

Commenting on the transition, Schwartz said: “It has been a privilege to lead CyrusOne and I could not be more confident in John’s leadership to take the Company into its next phase of growth.”

Having worked for CyrusOne for nearly 15 years, having joined in 2011, Hatem is a respected leader across the business. He has held a series of senior roles throughout the company, most recently serving as president, where he was responsible for global sales, global procurement, and design, engineering, and construction in the US.

He also has strong experience in data centre design, development and operations, which has helped him to transform CyrusOne into one of the world’s leading digital infrastructure providers, the company said.

He has taken the helm at a critical time for the data centre industry and has led a team that delivered record revenue growth and profitability for CyrusOne, as the company continues to expand its customer base. His knowledge of digital infrastructure and strategy is expected to help him lead CyrusOne in remaining true to its mission of recognising that sustainable growth requires supporting the communities where it operates.

“The team at CyrusOne has built something special: a company with the engineering discipline, operational expertise and talented personnel to deliver world-class data centre capacity at the speed and scale that our customers expect,” shared Hatem on his appointment. “I have never been more excited about what lies ahead. As workloads become more power-intensive and demand for faster delivery grows, our structural advantages have never mattered more.”

Waldemar Szlezak, Partner at KKR, and Will Brilliant, Partner at Global Infrastructure Partners, said: “In his nearly 15 years with CyrusOne, John has become the heart and soul of the company, having established a strong track record of building outstanding teams, carrying out winning strategies, and leading operations that must continue to move at the speed of technological innovation.”

They added: “He has earned the trust of many of the world’s leading enterprises, the local communities in which CyrusOne operates and his teammates. The opportunity for CyrusOne has never been greater and we are confident that John is the right person to guide the company forward. No one understands the company’s customers, capabilities, and potential more deeply than he does.”
