Digital Realty has partnered with BW Digital to improve data centre connectivity between Singapore and Indonesia.

As a result, the pair will work together on BW Digital’s Nongsa Changi Cable System (NCC), a new submarine cable linking Batam and Singapore and integrate it with Digital Realty’s SIN12 data centre.

This project will boost access to key cloud and connectivity hubs across Southeast Asia, supporting growing cross-border data needs.

Landing NCC in SIN12 will enable faster, more reliable and more sustainable data exchange between Singapore and Batam.

As the first cable to land directly in Nongsa Digital Park, the move will deliver over 1.6 Pb/s of capacity and under 2 ms latency to Singapore.

Additionally, the partnership will connect subsea cable landing facilities directly into Digital Realty’s global data centre platform, with BW Digital’s customers being able to expand their connectivity and scale AI workloads through interconnections inside SIN12.

BW Digital’s upcoming NDP-1 data centre in Batam will also offer Digital Realty customers more colocation and cloud options within the Singapore+ (SIJORI) region, the company revealed.

At a signing ceremony in Singapore, Digital Realty MD and head of Asia Pacific, Serene Nah, said: “Subsea networks are central to Southeast Asia’s digital economy, and Singapore continues to serve as a critical gateway for regional data exchange.

“By integrating BW Digital’s Nongsa–Changi system into SIN12, we are working to deliver faster and more resilient connectivity to support customers as they scale next-generation workloads. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to strengthening the interconnection foundation that powers the region’s digital growth”.

BW Digital chief business officer, Virginie Frouin, added: “This partnership represents a major milestone for BW Digital, aligning with our mission to support digital transformation by bridging the gap between submarine cable infrastructure and land-based digital platforms in a way that is efficient, secure, and future-ready.”

“We are hoping to enable AI workloads, provide reliable, secure connectivity between Singapore and Batam, support for rising demand in cross-border data exchange, and ongoing collaboration with Digital Realty to empower customers with greater interconnection flexibility”.
