The data centre marks Empyrion Digital’s first entry into the Taiwan market, with the 10 megawatt (MW) powered Taipei data centre – referred to as TW1 – being one of the newest facilities to be developed in the area.

Empyrion Digital said it has 7MW of scalable IT load and that TW1 is being purpose-built to meet growing demand for high-performance cloud and AI computing. The data centre will also support liquid cooling and high-density deployments.

It is expected to be ready for service in the fourth quarter of 2027.

“Breaking ground on TW1 is a significant milestone for Empyrion Digital as we continue to expand our footprint across Asia,” said Mark Fong, CEO of Empyrion Digital. “Taiwan is a strategic market with a strong digital economy and a world-class technology ecosystem.”

He added: “This facility will deliver sustainable, AI-ready infrastructure that supports our customers’ growth and strengthens Taiwan’s position in the regional digital network.”

The 4,260-square-metre facility will be built over five stories and designed with sustainability in mind. Empyrion Digital said it will feature energy-efficient air-cooled systems to minimise water usage and target water usage effectiveness (WUE) – but is also liquid cooling ready.

Included in the data centre design will be green features like vertical green walls and solar panels, the company said, as it hopes for the facility to achieve Taiwan’s Green Building Gold Certification. It will be working with local partners on green energy options moving forward to achieve this.

As a next-generation data centre developer and operator, Empyrion Digital is looking to rapidly grow its efforts in the sector. In addition to TW1, it has also recently announced a project in Johor, launching a 200MW data centre within the SiLC Industrial Cluster of Johor, alongside its operational 7.7MW facility in Singapore and a 29.4MW facility in Seoul.

The TW1 development hopes to strategically expand the company’s footprint across Asia.
