The transaction, first announced on December 23, 2024 and cleared by the Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in August 2025, increases Equinix’s portfolio from four to five colocation data centres.

The deal brings the Ballycoolin data centre under Equinix ownership, while boosting capacity at the company’s existing Citywest facility. Existing Irish and multinational enterprises operating in these facilities are now part of Equinix’s customer base.

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming our new colleagues and customers to Equinix,” said Peter Lantry, managing director, Equinix Ireland.

“We have a long and proud legacy of enabling businesses in Ireland to grow and connect, delivering significant value to individuals and businesses across the Irish economy. This completion of this acquisition of assets from BT allows us to continue serving those customers with world-class interconnection services that benefits Irish society through international interconnectivity.”

In the coming months, Equinix will oversee the transition of operations from BT, ensuring uninterrupted service for customers while integrating the facilities into its global network.

The company emphasises that these centres are not only pivotal to the Irish economy but also form key nodes in Equinix’s worldwide digital ecosystem.

The acquisition reinforces Equinix’s position as a global leader in digital infrastructure. Colocation data centres enable enterprises across sectors, including life sciences, banking, public sector, automotive, entertainment, and education, to securely manage and interconnect data with cloud providers, networks, and supply chain partners.

These facilities offer enhanced power efficiency and faster, more reliable connections than traditional on-premise data centres.

Equinix continues to expand its presence in Ireland, underlining its commitment to delivering high-performance colocation and interconnection services to support a rapidly evolving digital economy.
