The deployment covers the full Borussia-Park site, which includes a 54,000-seat stadium, the Borussia-8-Grad hotel, training pitches, retail, medical and office facilities, hospitality venues and the FohlenWelt museum.
Extreme’s access points, spanning the Wifi 7 4020, 5020 and 4060 series alongside the 5050U/D, provide coverage across the entire complex, supporting mobile ticketing, cashless payments, guest connectivity, livestreaming and in-venue audio-visual systems.
Frank Fleissgarten, CIO and CSO at Borussia VfL 1900 Mönchengladbach, said the club needed a network it could “rely on without compromise,” adding that Extreme delivered connectivity across payment terminals, VIP hospitality and access control while remaining “flexible enough to scale, innovate, and introduce new experiences as the club continues to evolve.”
Beyond matchday performance, the deployment gives Borussia’s IT team centralised visibility across wired, wireless and cloud infrastructure, with real-time automation and AI-driven analytics covering communications, inventory management and security operations.
The architecture is also designed to support future services including smart parking for the hotel and stadium, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and biometric access systems.
Thomas Mehrfort, head of sports and venues EMEA at Extreme Networks, said the club now operated on a network “built for scale,” positioning Borussia-Park among Europe’s most technologically advanced football venues.
Extreme Networks has an established presence across European sports venues and positions its stadium and venue networking solutions around the convergence of fan experience, operational efficiency and digital infrastructure scalability.
