GE Vernova has announced it is investing about $30 million to expand its electrification manufacturing facility in Sesto San Giovanni, Italy.

As a result, the expansion will increase production of bushings, critical components in power and generator transformers that ensure electricity is transmitted safely and efficiently.

Additionally, the move is expected to create around 50 new manufacturing jobs in the Lombardy region.

The project will add production lines for advanced dry-type bushings, including Resin Impregnated Paper (RIP) and Resin Impregnated Synthetic (RIS) technologies, for voltage levels up to 245 kV, the company revealed.

This expansion is part of GE Vernova’s $11 billion investment plan for 2025 – 2028, following its $5.2 billion acquisition of Prolec GE.

GE Vernova CEO, Philippe Piron, said: “With this investment, we are strengthening a strategic capability within our fastest-growing Electrification segment.

“Sesto San Giovanni plays a central role in our global bushing manufacturing footprint. Expanding capacity here increases supply security for our customers and reinforces our ability to support large-scale power transmission and generation programs worldwide.”
