Kao Data has appointed industry leader Spencer Lamb as its next CEO, effective immediately.

Having joined the company in 2020, Lamb has moved from its previous role as managing director and CCO to take the helm alongside founder and executive chair, David Bloom. With more than 20 years of experience working across the international data centre industry, Lamb’s leadership will be critical in leading Kao Data in scaling its AI-ready infrastructure.

Lamb’s appointment also forms part of Kao Data’s wider leadership evolution that was designed strategically to accelerate its next phase of growth as a business. Kao Data is well-known for its specialist development and operation of data centres engineered with AI and advanced computing.

Speaking on his appointment, Lamb said: “I have loved my time at Kao Data, and I am excited to step up and lead the company as its CEO. One of the biggest strengths of Kao Data is our ‘player-manager’ mentality, recruiting from within to develop and grow our people, which is exactly what this role calls for.”

He added: “I am looking forward to ensuring Kao Data continues to play a strong and defining role in the UK’s AI infrastructure story, and that we keep delivering for our customers, our people and the communities we operate in.”

During his time at Kao Data, Lamb has led the company’s successful go-to-market strategy and secured significant customers across the cloud, AI and enterprise sectors. He has been instrumental in establishing the company as a UK leader in the industry, which includes the development of its Harlow campus into one of the UK’s leading homes for AI, HPC, scientific research and life sciences compute.

Most recently, Lamb has advocated for the development of homegrown AI infrastructure within the UK, which has led to him becoming a well-respected figure across the data centre industry. He frequently speaks about the UK’s AI ambitions and works with local and central government to support data centre understanding and the UK’s energy expansion plans to enable its AI and economic growth.

As CEO, he will lead Kao Data alongside David Bloom and build capital structures, partnerships and relationships that will accelerate the company’s long-term growth plans.

“Spencer’s appointment formalises what has been an increasingly natural evolution in how we lead this business,” Bloom said. “As CEO, Spencer will drive Kao Data’s operations and day-to-day growth strategy, while I remain directly focused on the strategic priorities that will shape our next chapter: major financing, capital partnerships, M&A and our ongoing engagement with government on the UK’s AI infrastructure agenda.

“This is a leadership structure built deliberately for scale, and I am excited about what we will build together.”
