In addition to the expansion, Lyca Mobile has launched the Lyca SUPA SIM, offering users the freedom to choose from five different options for data. Available at no cost to customers, it also offers unlimited Lyca-to-Lyca calling so that communities can stay connected.
Lyca Mobile is also rolling out a new voice tariff that reduces call rates from UGX 3 per second to UGX 1 per second across all networks. The MVNO said this will represent a 67% reduction in call costs, with customers now able to make calls to any network using airtime top-up without worrying about expiring validity.
Such a milestone reflects Lyca Mobile’s commitment to enabling more affordable and accessible communication for Ugandans.
To improve customer experience, the MVNO has partnered with multiple fintech service providers in Uganda offering multiple options to recharge, in addition to regular telecom agents and retail outlets. Customers will also have access to digital payment platforms for increased convenience and choice.
Since first launching as a mobile network operator in Uganda in January 2020, Lyca Mobile has committed to delivering affordable and innovative services. Looking ahead, the company said it seeks to drive digital inclusion and contribute to economic growth across the country.
“Lyca Mobile serves over 16 million customers worldwide and we are always looking to see how we can keep new and existing customers connected,” said Prem Sivasamy, deputy chairman at Lyca Group. “Our network expansion in Uganda is part of our commitment to ensure that wherever our customers are, they are able to take advantage of the great value mobile plans that we offer.”
As of 2024, there are roughly 30 million internet users in Uganda, with approximately 95% of internet users in Uganda across the internet via mobile devices.
