The move could make Meta one of the largest corporate buyers of nuclear energy.
Under 20-year power purchase agreements, Meta will buy electricity from three existing Vistra nuclear plants, the Perry and Davis-Besse reactors in Ohio and Beaver Valley in Pennsylvania.
The deals will support ongoing operations, planned uprates to increase output and extended plant lifetimes, helping meet Meta’s long-term power demand.
Collectively, these agreements could supply Meta with up to around 6.6GW of nuclear power by 2035, a level comparable to the output of multiple large reactors. Industry observers say this aligns with the surging electricity needs of AI-intensive compute workloads and hyperscale data centre operations.
In addition to securing power from existing facilities, Meta is also partnering with next-generation nuclear developers.
Agreements with TerraPower, backed by Bill Gates, will support development of up to eight Natrium reactors, potentially delivering around 2.8GW of carbon-free capacity with integrated energy storage by the early 2030s.
Meanwhile, a separate collaboration with advanced nuclear company Oklo is aimed at facilitating up to 1.2GW of generation in Ohio as early as 2030 under planned reactor projects.
Meta’s nuclear initiatives build on existing energy strategies, including earlier agreements such as a 20-year contract with Constellation Energy for nuclear power from the Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois.
