Nokia and KETS Quantum Security have collaborated to advance the commercial scalability of quantum key distribution, with KETS integrating its chip-based technology into Nokia’s global ‘flying kit’ quantum-safe demonstration system.

The flying kit, which travels globally to showcase end-to-end quantum-safe security solutions to tier-1 operators and government clients, now features a full quantum-safe stack combining Nokia’s optical networking equipment with KETS’s chip-based QKD modules. The integrated system made its international debut at the World Defense Show in Riyadh in February.

The QKD v2.0 unit supplied to Nokia is the same security-hardened, server-sized architecture recently trialled by BT. Built around integrated silicon chips, the technology is designed to allow telecoms providers to source components at scale while maintaining low size, weight, and power requirements.

Lisa Matthews, CEO of KETS Quantum Security, said the collaboration demonstrated that quantum-safe security had moved beyond the laboratory.

“By embedding our hardware into the very fabric of Nokia’s ecosystem, we are proving that quantum-safe security is no longer a laboratory experiment, it is a commercially viable reality that can be deployed across global transport layers today.”

Carlo Corti, MEA optical networks technical sales leader at Nokia said the integration showed how quantum-safe outcomes could be delivered through a scalable architecture that fits into existing technology stacks.
