Under the agreement, Nokia will supply its AirScale portfolio, including next-generation baseband and radio equipment, alongside AI-driven software, to upgrade Taiwan Mobile’s existing network infrastructure. The vendor said the deployment is designed to support new 5G services and monetisation opportunities as AI traffic on the network grows.
The rollout spans four areas: network intelligence, infrastructure capacity, energy management and resilience. On the intelligence side, Nokia will deploy predictive analytics and automation software, including its Predictive Hardware Analytics service and MantaRay SON self-organising network tool, aimed at closed-loop network assurance.
On infrastructure, new baseband and radio equipment is intended to lift network capacity and uplink performance for AI-driven traffic. Nokia said AI-based energy management software will also help Taiwan Mobile cut power consumption and progress towards its sustainability targets, while AI-enabled self-healing and traffic-steering tools are pitched as strengthening resilience during network disruption.
Mark Atkinson, head of radio access networks at Nokia, said the deal builds on a long-standing partnership with Taiwan Mobile, adding that the company’s radio and baseband solutions and AI-driven software would deliver automation and efficiency gains “setting the foundation for 5G-Advanced and beyond.”
Jamie Lin, president of Taiwan Mobile, described the collaboration as a “key pillar” of the operator’s strategy to build a resilient, sustainable network to support its telco and technology businesses, saying the partnership would help it capture new growth opportunities.
The agreement is also expected to support the introduction of newer 5G capabilities, including network slicing and RedCap, according to the companies.
Nokia and Taiwan Mobile did not specify a deployment timeline or coverage targets for the upgraded network.
