The agreement, announced on Monday, will see Nokia continue modernising TNN’s infrastructure with new AI-enabled and autonomous network capabilities intended to boost capacity, reliability and end-user experience across Denmark. The upgrade programme is already under way.
TNN, a joint venture between energy and telecoms group Norlys and operator Telenor, provides mobile coverage to more than three million customers nationwide.
The extension strengthens a long-standing partnership between the companies, with Nokia set to deploy technology from its AirScale radio portfolio alongside its MantaRay automation platform.
The modernisation will include Nokia’s Habrok Massive MIMO radios and Pandion multi-band remote radio heads to increase coverage and improve performance in dense urban areas and rural locations.
Nokia will also supply its latest AirScale baseband systems, Ponente, Lodos and Levante, which are designed to support rising data traffic and deliver improved energy efficiency. The solutions use Nokia’s ReefShark chipsets, developed to reduce power consumption while sustaining high network throughput.
Nokia said the upgrade will enable TNN to support new digital services and enterprise applications, while laying foundations for future 5G-Advanced and beyond-5G use cases.
Daniel Askeroth, SVP telco at Norlys, said the investment would support the delivery of “an autonomous, AI-powered 5G network” to customers across Denmark. “Partnering with Nokia will provide us with the best services and allow us to embrace the opportunities of 5G and beyond,” he said.
Louise Haurum, CTO at Telenor Denmark, said the renewed partnership would “accelerate innovation” and strengthen network resilience.
As part of the agreement, TNN will adopt Nokia’s MantaRay AutoPilot, an AI-driven system that works with its self-organising network technology to automate real-time network optimisation and cut operational costs. Nokia will continue providing managed services across the network, aiming to streamline operations and enhance service quality.
Mark Atkinson, head of radio access network at Nokia said the renewed deal demonstrated the company’s role as “a trusted technology provider” in Denmark’s mobile market. “We are helping TNN expand 5G coverage and capacity to deliver best-in-class connectivity experiences,” he said.
