The deployment will combine Nokia’s optical transport, IP routing and fixed access technologies to extend reliable broadband to thousands of households that have historically lacked access to high-speed internet. VarData will support the rollout as integration partner, providing deployment expertise and ongoing network support.
The project highlights the growing role of BEAD funding in accelerating fibre buildouts in rural markets, where commercial viability has traditionally been challenging. SkyFiber, the largest BEAD funding recipient in Nevada, is aiming to deliver scalable, future-proof infrastructure capable of supporting long-term regional growth.
Garry Gomes, president of SkyFiber said: “This project allows us to bring high-speed, reliable broadband to underserved communities in Nevada. With Nokia and VarData, we will deliver the connectivity our residents and businesses need to thrive in today’s digital economy.”
From a vendor perspective, the deal underscores continued demand for integrated, end-to-end network solutions. Matt Young, head of regional providers and enterprise, North America at Nokia, said: “Together with VarData, we are delivering an end-to-end network solution for SkyFiber with seamless performance across every layer of infrastructure.”
VarData’s president Jeff Coke added: “We are proud to stand beside Nokia and Sky Fiber in delivering a network that will transform daily life for Nevada residents.”
The deployment will utilise Nokia’s full portfolio, from core routing to in-home Wi-Fi, reflecting a broader industry shift towards single-vendor architectures designed to simplify operations and improve performance.
