Cerwall has served on GSA’s Executive Committee since 2012 and joins the role from Ericsson, where he spent 31 years, most recently as Head of Strategic Marketing. He is known for creating and leading the Ericsson Mobility Report since 2011, an industry benchmark for mobile market trends.

“GSA plays a unique role in helping the industry separate signal from noise, tracking real-world progress, connecting stakeholders and playing a central role in spectrum advocacy and standards discussions,” said Cerwall. He said his focus would be on strengthening GSA’s value to members “through rigorous research, practical industry programmes and open collaboration” as the sector navigates continued 5G expansion and emerging enterprise and industrial use cases.

Barrett said GSA was “firmly established as the voice of the 3GPP vendor community” through its research, advocacy and convening power, adding that Cerwall’s understanding of operators’ and vendors’ priorities made him well placed to lead the association through the transition to 6G.

As President, Cerwall will work with GSA’s Executive Committee to advance the organisation’s research agenda, with priorities including strengthening analyst-validated market intelligence on network deployment, devices and spectrum; accelerating member collaboration on 5G RedCap, private mobile networks, fixed wireless access, non-terrestrial networks, 5G Advanced and 6G; and expanding engagement with operators, enterprises and policymakers.

Cerwall holds a Master of Science from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and has 10 approved patents in mobile communication systems. He will be based in Stockholm.
