UK data centre operator Pulsant has committed to a new high-density data hall in Milton Keynes, UK, as part of a £10 million (US$13.6 million) investment.
The facility is designed to support the rapid adoption of AI and advanced computing – harnessing Pulsant’s platformEDGE framework to meet growing demand for high-performance sovereign infrastructure beyond the London data centre market.
“The £10m expansion of our Milton Keynes data centre is another big investment in our digital platform to meet hunger for high density compute power,” said Rob Coupland, CEO at Pulsant. “UK digital infrastructure is facing unprecedented demand. With AI-ready capacity in short supply, bringing high performance, flexibility and choice to regional locations is critical.
“For organisations looking for ultra-low latency, international connectivity and UK sovereign compute power, Milton Keynes is a great option compared to constrained and costly London data centres which lack the opportunity for expansion.”
The infrastructure expansion will consist of 1.2 megawatts (MW) and will be purpose-built to handle high-density computing tasks – including intensive AI, machine learning and accelerated workloads – to support financial services, healthcare, biotech, IT and gaming sectors.
Milton Keynes is a strategic location in the UK and is designed to offer an alternative to London for UK businesses, particularly as space in London becomes increasingly limited. The site is located within the Oxford-Cambridge tech supercluster, which is home to businesses with 570,000 employees generating £135 billion (US$183.72 billion) in annual turnover.
It is now part of Pulsant’s national platform of 14 data centres interconnected by a 400Gb capable network. The company said it also opens access to 1,600+ cloud services, network providers and business partners and looks to provide instant connectivity for global traffic routing and access to international networks.
Coupland added: “Our unique platform gives local, national and international clients the flexibility to circumvent some of the risks associated with the London cluster, while maintaining high performance, resilience and connectivity.”
In meeting the surge in demand for high-performance, sovereign infrastructure, Pulsant is rolling out its high-density model to other key regions, as part of its national platformEDGE capabilities.
Pulsant’s news comes amid the UK government committing to becoming a global AI leader, having previously invested £500 million ($674 million) to strengthen the capabilities of the technology. As a result, Milton Keynes has very quickly emerged as a hub for digital innovation, boasting strong business networks and a strong technology community.
