Backed by Oaktree Capital, Pure Data Centres said the data centre campus will be leased by a single hyperscaler tenant, as the industry seeks to build more AI infrastructure.
Construction of the campus will begin in Amsterdam in January 2026, with the company saying there will be a phased delivery from 2028 onwards. It will be able to serve either AI or cloud workloads, with a private substation powering the data centre.
The campus is expected to be one of the largest by power capacity in Amsterdam.
“Amsterdam is one of Europe’s most constrained markets for digital infrastructure and Pure DC has again demonstrated its ability to unlock new low-latency, high-quality capacity,” said Dame Dawn Childs, CEO at Pure Data Centres Group. “This deal demonstrates how our specialist teams have the creativity and approach to deliver compelling proposals – delivering solutions for local authorities, potential customers, and our supply chain”
This news comes as a significant number of data centre projects have been announced across Europe this year, amid grid constraints and AI demand impacting the continent. In this case, it isn’t very common for a project to have a lease already agreed at this stage.
The company has said it is committed to working with local communities near current and future operational locations. In Amsterdam, it said it will be working with local schools and universities to provide training and outreach programmes, in addition to working with community partners on environmental conservation projects.
Pure Data Centres has made significant moves in the industry this year, having also recently received final planning approvals for phase one of its €400 million ($470 million) Madrid data centre and private sub-station. Phase one will see the development of a substation and 30MW data centre with a total potential campus capacity of 70MW.
Likewise, the company partnered with SEGRO to build a 56MW data centre in West London.
Such major investments in infrastructure are set to play a pivotal role in supporting Europe’s digital growth and energy resilience. Speaking at the time, Pure Data Centres CEO said: “Our collaboration with SEGRO will deliver a next-generation data centre capable of supporting cloud and AI workloads.”
Capacity has contacted Pure Data Centres for additional comment.
