Digital Connexion, the joint venture between Reliance Industries, Brookfield Corporation and Digital Realty, has revealed plans to invest US$11 billion to build a 1GW AI-native data centre campus in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The project, to be completed by 2030, marks one of the largest single data centre investments ever announced in India and signals the country’s intensifying ambitions to become a global hub for AI and cloud infrastructure.

Unveiled at a state investment event on November 26, the campus will be developed on a 400-acre site near Visakhapatnam, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a strategic location for hyperscale and high-density AI compute.

According to Digital Connexion, the facilities will be engineered to support demanding next-generation workloads, incorporating redundant power, high-density racks, advanced cooling and cloud-ready environments for global providers.

The JV, which already operates a major campus in Chennai and is expanding in Mumbai’s Chandivali district, said the new development would meet surging demand for AI compute and cloud services from both global and domestic customers.

Local reports indicate the investment aligns with broader national initiatives to increase data centre capacity while supporting data sovereignty, localisation requirements and India’s accelerating digital adoption.

The decision to locate the project in Visakhapatnam also reflects a broader industry trend to diversify data-centre hubs beyond India’s traditional metro clusters. With its scale and AI-first architecture, the facility aims to attract hyperscalers, AI companies and large enterprises seeking low-latency services in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.

State officials welcomed the investment as a major milestone in positioning Andhra Pradesh as a high-tech infrastructure destination. Digital Connexion is expected to roll out the project in phases, although detailed timelines and customer commitments have not yet been disclosed.

The announcement comes as India experiences rapid growth in data-centre development driven by rising cloud demand, expanding 5G coverage and the emergence of large-scale AI workloads. If executed as planned, the 1GW campus would rank among the largest in the Asia-Pacific region and significantly expand India’s footprint in global digital infrastructure.
