At Datacloud Middle East, technology investment group T964 and Nokia have announced a partnership that will modernise Iraq’s telecommunications and digital infrastructure.
The collaboration centres on deploying advanced connectivity solutions, including enterprise networks, data centres, international transit, and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services.
By combining Nokia’s expertise in network technology and T964’s local operational capabilities, the initiative seeks to deliver foundational improvements and reflects a commitment to creating scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure to support Iraq’s rapidly changing digital economy.
With increasing demand for digital services from both public and private sectors – driven by digital banking, e-government, cloud adoption, and enterprise digitisation – the need for reliable, high-capacity infrastructure has become apparent. The partnership directly addresses these needs, aiming to bridge existing gaps and foster sustainable digital growth.
The partnership also aims to reinforce Iraq’s role as a strategic regional data corridor. The partnership also enhances World Link, T964’s international connectivity platform. Through the platform, the initiative will optimise international fibre transit operations and improve network redundancy.
By reducing the risk of outages and enhancing cross-border connectivity, Iraq is quickly becoming an attractive hub for international carriers and enterprise traffic, due to it’s position between the Gulf, Turkey, and Europe.
Expanding high-speed residential broadband is another priority, with the development of T964’s FiberX FTTH platform. Improved network design and throughput are set to enable broader, more consistent internet access, supporting education, remote work, and online commerce.
The expansion of FTTH networks is viewed as a crucial investment in narrowing the digital divide and supporting the nation’s economic participation in the digital era.
Osama Qadan, chief commercial officer at T964, said: “By aligning global technology expertise with local infrastructure, we are building systems designed to scale and power Iraq’s evolving digital economy,” he stated.
Mohamed Faisal, head of Middle East-West, network infrastructure at Nokia, added: “Our advanced connectivity solutions will provide the technological backbone necessary to support T964’s vision of a connected and digitally empowered future.”
Although financial terms have not been disclosed, the partnership signals a multi-faceted infrastructure development programme with lasting impact. As the country seeks to diversify its economy and expand digital services, robust telecommunications infrastructure will be vital in maintaining competitiveness in a global, digital marketplace.
