Both companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ASML, one of the world’s leading semiconductor equipment manufacturing companies, enabling the establishment and successful ramp of Tata Electronics’ upcoming 12-inch (300 mm) semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat.
The collaboration will also focus on deploying ASML’s suite of advanced lithography tools and solutions for the Dholera fab. Planning to deliver value to Tata Electronics customers via the first commercial 300 mm semiconductor fab in India, the two companies also unite to develop domestic talent, supply chain and research initiatives to support the long-term success of the fab.
“We are excited to partner with ASML, a company known for its innovation and leadership in lithography, and for enabling semiconductor customers globally. ASML’s deep expertise in holistic lithography solutions will ensure the timely ramp of our fab in Dholera, create a resilient and trusted supply chain for our global customers, drive innovation and develop talent locally,” said Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD of Tata Electronics.
He added: “This foundational partnership with ASML brings a shared commitment to the highest standards of quality, yield and manufacturing excellence, and it will go a long way in building a strong semiconductor ecosystem in India.”
The collaboration marks a significant moment for the Netherlands and India as they seek to expand their strategic collaboration in critical technologies.
Planning a total investment of US$11 billion into the commercial fab, Tata Electronics said the facility will manufacture semiconductors for a variety of applications across automotive, mobile devices, AI and other critical segments to serve customers worldwide.
To facilitate this, the company has partnered with various key global customers and ecosystem companies, including PSMC (Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation), to gain access to a broad technology portfolio.
Construction of the plant continues to progress at scale, Tata Electronics said. Its partnership with ASML is part of a broader strategic plan to partner across the semiconductor ecosystem, encompassing equipment, process, design technology and materials.
India continues to digitally transform at scale, with some of the largest companies in the world investing in the region to facilitate growth. Availability of skilled talent across the country remains critical to India becoming a leading player in semiconductor manufacturing in particular. Therefore, Tata Electronics has partnered with various Indian companies and institutions to empower young people locally with the necessary knowledge and skills. With ASML, the company will also drive initiatives to strengthen the domestic talent pipeline.
Christophe Fouquet, President & CEO at ASML, added: “India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor sector represents many compelling opportunities, and we are committed to establishing long-term partnerships in the region. Signing this MoU today marks an important milestone, and we look forward to close collaboration with Tata Electronics and its broader ecosystem.”
He added: “We believe Tata Electronics is strongly positioned to realise its ambitions in expanding semiconductor capabilities. We are pleased and honoured to contribute our technological expertise and to help nurture talent in India.”
