The new PoPs are located at three data centres in the capital of Minas Gerais, a state in the south eastern part of Brazil.
This expansion aims to broaden the company’s reach in Brazil and strengthen its offering of IP Transit, data transport and interconnection services for regional internet service providers (ISPs), operators, data centres and companies requiring high-capacity connectivity.
TelCables Brasil, an Angola Cables subsidiary, now has ten PoPs in Brazil as it looks to improve access from local networks to international routes. The company said having a local presence allows for shorter routes for data traffic, thereby improving the performance of time-sensitive applications.
Expanding infrastructure in Belo Horizonte also reinforces TelCables’ strategy of bringing its network closer to customers and partners and create new interconnection points that increase traffic efficiency and expand access to the global Angola Cables network.
Additionally, the expansion increases the network’s resilience and redundancy. It has also been scaled to support the growth in demand for broadband, data traffic and digital services in the region.
For customers, the infrastructure expansion offers operational gains like improved network performance, greater connection stability and more local interconnection options, in addition to greater capacity for traffic expansion. It also stands to strengthen the regional digital ecosystem by facilitating interconnection between providers, companies, content platforms and data centre infrastructure.
The news comes after TelCables committed to accelerating its expansion across Africa, Europe and South America. The company is doing this through new partnerships, submarine cable investments and data centre development – very timely, given how demand for south-to-south and transatlantic connectivity continues to surge.
Ângelo Gama, CEO of Angola Cables said that the overall strategy of the company and its TelCables’ subsidiaries is to strengthen its position as a neutral intercontinental connectivity provider.
Now, TelCables is evaluating new investments in digital infrastructure in Minas Gerais, including future deployment of a cloud node that could bring computing and storage resources closer to end users and further reduce application latency.
