Verne appoints new COO to scale low-carbon AI infrastructure

Wayne Louw was formerly an executive at NTT Global Data Centers and will help lead Verne as it enters a more complex, AI-intensive phase of growth.

Now chief operating officer (COO) of Verne, Wayne Louw is an established senior operations leader and joins the data centre operator as hyperscalers and enterprise customers seek resilient, high-capacity infrastructure in Northern Europe.

Louw will lead the next phase of low-carbon AI-driven operational scale for Verne, as it scales its multi-site platform, hoping to strengthen its operational leadership. He holds extensive experience leading multi-site, mission-critical environments and is set to guide the next stage of Verne’s operational scale.

“Verne operates in markets where access to secure, renewable power is a strategic advantage. That matters even more as AI workloads push density and cooling requirements higher,” Louw said, speaking on his appointment.

“I have spent my career operating complex, multi-country platforms at scale. What excites me about Verne is the opportunity to apply that operational discipline to a business entering a new level of technical intensity. That next stage demands disciplined execution at scale.”

Most recently, Louw led large-scale mission-critical operations across Europe and Africa for NTT Global Data Centers. He has also held senior leadership experience at Gyron and has managed large, distributed teams across multiple markets. He has also been successful in unifying regional operations under a single model, while also supporting hyperscale customers through periods of significant capacity build-out.

As COO at Verne, he will oversee operational strategy, performance and resilience across its multi-site infrastructure.

His appointment comes as Verne supports increasingly power-intensive AI deployments across Northern Europe – a region that was identified as one of Europe’s most active colocation markets currently, according to the EUDCA State of European Data Centres 2025 report.

What makes this region so active is its renewable power availability and regulatory stability, as hyperscalers, neoclouds and enterprises drive growth. As rack densities rise and infrastructure becomes more power-intensive, operational precision becomes critical.
