The new PoP is deployed at NXDATA-1 Bucharest DC, the country’s largest carrier-neutral data centre and interconnection hub. The move brings Zayo Europe’s Tier 1 IP transit capabilities directly into one of the region’s most densely interconnected ecosystems, enhancing access for telecom operators, cloud platforms and enterprise customers.
By integrating NXDATA into its pan-European backbone, Zayo Europe is aiming to improve latency, resilience and scalability for bandwidth-intensive applications, particularly as AI and cloud adoption accelerate traffic growth. The PoP supports 100GE-enabled IP transit services alongside advanced DDoS mitigation, delivering low-latency packet connectivity across Romania and the wider region.
Colman Deegan, CEO at Zayo Europe said: “Southeast Europe is increasingly becoming a connectivity hub for the continent, offering strategic routes into the global ecosystem. Expanding into Bucharest perfectly complements the growth we have already seen in Sofia, Bulgaria this year and represents a key step in our continued investment in the region.”
He added that locating infrastructure within NXDATA aligns with the company’s strategy of bringing network capabilities closer to customers and key digital ecosystems, while improving route diversity and service resilience.
Sorin Andone said the deployment strengthens Bucharest’s role as a regional interconnection gateway. “This partnership with a Tier 1 global network operator… enhances the quality, diversity, and traffic volumes across the regional telecom ecosystem.”
The expansion underscores increasing investment in Southeast Europe as operators respond to rising demand for scalable, high-capacity digital infrastructure.
