Under the new agreement, Airtel Cloud customers will gain access to IBM’s Power Systems portfolio on an as-a-Service basis, including the latest generation Power11 autonomous servers.

The move supports critical enterprise workloads spanning IBM Power AIX, IBM i, Linux, and SAP Cloud ERP, and aids customers in transitioning their resource planning systems to SAP Cloud ERP on IBM Power Virtual Server.

The deal will see Airtel expand their cloud footprint, with the number of availability zones set to increase from four to ten, alongside the planned launch of new multi-zone regions in Mumbai and Chennai.

Under the partnership, Airtel Cloud customers will gain access to IBM’s Power Systems portfolio as-a-Service. This includes the latest-generation IBM Power11 autonomous servers, designed for AI-ready, mission-critical workloads. The Power11 hybrid platform supports enterprise applications including IBM Power AIX, IBM i, Linux, and SAP Cloud ERP. Additionally, the collaboration will assist SAP customers leveraging IBM Power in transitioning their enterprise resource planning systems to SAP Cloud ERP on IBM Power Virtual Server.

Gopal Vittal, vice chairman and managing director of Bharti Airtel, commented: “Airtel Cloud is designed to be highly secure and compliant, setting new industry benchmarks as an agile and resilient cloud platform.

“Today, with the IBM partnership, we are adding substantial capabilities to our Cloud platform to address the unique needs of industries requiring migration from IBM Power Systems and AI readiness. With this partnership, we are also expanding our footprint in India, increasing the number of availability zones from four to ten, hosted across our next-generation sustainable data centres. We will also establish two new Multi-Zone Regions (MZRs) in Mumbai and Chennai shortly.”
