How does Telecom Egypt ensure network diversity for the international traffic that it carries over its terrestrial infrastructure?
Telecom Egypt’s terrestrial infrastructure is a critical enabler that complements our vast subsea infrastructure portfolio, interlinking the 11 landing points on the shores of the Red Sea and Mediterranean. The company operates an extensive mesh network in Egypt encompassing 12 diverse terrestrial crossing routes for subsea cables, including the recent network expansion in the Sinai Peninsula.
The commitment to network diversity and protection is at the core of Telecom Egypt’s operational philosophy. We ensure diversity for routes and landing points not only in number but also in terms of geographic location. This physical diversity is complemented by comprehensive digital innovation through our WeConnect platform, whereby customers can instantly and transparently order cross-connections, reroute traffic and optimise capacity across multiple subsea and terrestrial paths.
Moreover, our ongoing collaborations with regional partners, including innovative projects across the Arabian Peninsula, foster alternative routing options that combine subsea and terrestrial links. These initiatives are crucial to addressing the current challenges faced in the southern Red Sea region and further enhancing reliability.
In essence, our integrated subsea and terrestrial infrastructure, combined with cutting-edge solutions and environmental stewardship, solidifies Telecom Egypt’s ability to ensure reliable and resilient connectivity for our global partners and their end users.
Can you describe how Telecom Egypt maintains its global positioning?
Telecom Egypt has solidified its position over the years as a major international hub and crossing point for subsea cables between regions through a variety of infrastructure-related investments.
Such investments are crucial for meeting the increasing demand for robust, resilient internet networks across regions, empowering
communities and businesses in a wide range of sectors through advanced technologies and shaping the future of global connectivity. Our extensive infrastructure currently carries over 90% of international traffic that transits between Europe and Asia, and Europe and Africa, with transit capacity reaching 270Tbps to date. We also have partnerships with more than 170 subsea cable players across 21 in-service and planned systems.
What impact have strategic partnerships had on enhancing Telecom Egypt’s market position and service offerings?
Partnerships are essential for improving our standing in the market, giving us new capabilities and enabling new offerings. Although we already have great assets in our own networks and services, nobody can achieve sustained success in the industry entirely alone.
Partnerships also reinforce the message that we are a fully trusted connectivity provider for other players on both the regional and global scale.
Telecom Egypt continues to forge new agreements and partnerships. These long-term agreements reflect the confidence in our reliable infrastructure and technical expertise, solidifying our position as the preferred partner for operators seeking to develop their
businesses and meet customer demands.
Meanwhile, our infrastructure-related deals, and involvement in partnerships and consortia for building subsea cables are key to expanding our footprint efficiently and offering high quality capacity services to customers.
Given the multiple benefits we gain from these relationships, they will continue to form a central part of our strategy going forward.
In what ways will Telecom Egypt seek to maintain its strong positioning at the forefront of the industry going forward?
We always aim to keep our finger on the pulse both by keeping up to date with key industry developments and by shaping the future of the industry through our subsea and terrestrial rollout activities.
We recognise that Egypt is a key international location for supporting the growth of communications, as a place where continents meet. However, we do not sit back and wait for things to happen in the industry, instead taking a proactive approach by rolling out high quality infrastructure, participating in international consortia, and landing and transiting cables through our territory. We are continuously investing in our infrastructure, ensuring agility and expanding our reach.
To stay one step ahead, we must maintain rigorous knowledge and expertise on the global industry. One element of this is sharing our thoughts and experiences with the industry, while also listening to feedback from other key players in the market. By incorporating the latest technological advances and working with partners to boost international communications, we play our part as a central actor and a seasoned global digital connectivity hub.
Looking ahead, we will continue to invest in robust network infrastructure while maintaining a focus on financial and operational excellence. Our priorities remain strengthening our core business, driving sustainable profitability and creating long-term value for our shareholders. I am confident that our talented team and resilient business model will enable us to navigate future challenges and seize new opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.
